The Ark Encounter Road Trip Day 2

Day two started out rainy and got worse for the first few hours.  Taking US 19 north out of Dahlonega to then take US 64 west to get back onto I-75 north was a knuckle-biting adventure as the road was two lanes and very curvy -- the locals sped past us in several places which didn't help.

We made several stops enroute to enjoy the waterfalls and a couple parks along US 64

This was water running out of the ground onto the parking area

We passed many of these running out of the side of the mountain

We arrived in Cincinnati and found our house.  This was on a main four-lane street and we had no choice but to park half on the right-of-way and half in the street.

Our entrance was through the screened porch on the right.  This is a very unique house; probably built in the 1920s or earlier.  There were steps up to the yard and then steps up to the porch.

 Bedroom 1

Deep tub with the controls on the side wall; the middle knob controls  the stopper.  The shower was separate.

Bedroom 2 with a trundle so the room sleeps three.

The coffee nook with a Keureg -- limited decaf coffee but plenty of other choices

Antique kitchen (but it does have a dishwasher!) The door goes to a landing several steps down with steps up to which we believe was the original foyer and front door and the staircase to the second floor. Also, there were  very steep steps down to the cellar where the washer and dryer were.

Well stocked cabinet - including a place for the flour sifter.  The owner had included several different breakfast options.

Dining room with the only a/c unit in the first floor of this house, not that we needed it as it was expected to be about 40 degrees overnight.

We carried our stuff up some steep steps to get into this house.  The upstairs is a separate unit.  Outside in the back/side yard was a firepit and four chairs which we didn't use being totally exhausted.  Although, we did teach Pat how to play Canasta after returning from having dinner at Olive Garden.

The Arc Encounter Road Trip

A group of ladies from church decided last year to take a road trip to see the Arc which Ken Hamm had built near Williamstown, KY.  The final plans included a side trip to see the Creation Museum in nearby Petersburg, KY, also built by Ken Hamm.
So we left early Monday morning on April 23, planning to spend the night in Dahlonega, GA.  It was very rainy going up I-95 toward I-10 to connect with I-75 North.  Even with the gps on, somehow we missed the turn for I-295 and the I-10 connection.  our driver then took the scenic route through Jacksonville and we were not delayed at all.  For the most part, the trip was uneventful and we made it to our rental before nightfall with plenty of time to unload the van and then head out for dinner at a SteakN Shake restaurant.
This was the main house; we had the former mother-in-law apartment to the right of the main house.

This is the front of the in-law apartment.

 This was our entrance.

 The living room/kitchen area

This bedroom has another bunk bed which would sleep three people in addition to these two twin beds.

The other bedroom had a queen bed.

Before heading out to dinner, we took a recommended side trip to see the waterfalls at Camp Glisson, a conference center and camp run by the United Methodists.

We had to remove our shoes in order to use the walkway because the water was running over it.

Some of these buildings seem to be private residences within the camp.

After eating dinner at Steak' n Shake, we returned to the house.  And so ended day one.
